People
in many parts of the world have been making yoghurt for at
least 4000 years. In the Middle East, for example, yoghurt
has always been an important and traditional part of the diet.
Through the ages, yoghurt has been recognised as a valuable
food and also a good way to keep milk from deteriorating.
Yoghurt
is a uniquely healthy food. Today more than 30 percent of
the world's population regularly consumes yoghurt, with the
annual worldwide per capita consumption being about two litres.
Yoghurt
is popular in New Zealand too and more and more discerning
New Zealanders are discovering the benefits of Biofarm yoghurt.
Biofarm
yoghurt is different from the majority of other yoghurts available
because:
- It's
made from certified organic milk so you can be sure that
no pesticides, chemicals, or antibiotics are used on the
farm
- It
contains no added milk solids (milk powder), and so the
level of lactose will be minimal
- Unless
you opt for the low fat alternatives, it is made from whole
milk so it still contains all the vitamins naturally found
in pure whole milk
- Its
full dairy flavour is enhanced by the method of manufacture
- It
contains no additives or stabilisers
- In
addition to acidophilus and bifidus, it also contains casei
- It
will pour from the container

Health
Benefits
The regular
consumption Biofarm yoghurt has proven health benefits. Biofarm
make certified organic yoghurt - free from pesticides and
antibiotics, which can contaminate pure milk. For us, this
means clean, nutritious food that is also free from additives
like milk solids, gelatine, starch, sugar and unnatural flavours.
Such pure, natural yoghurt has less chance of causing allergic
reactions.
Enjoying
half a cup of Biofarm yoghurt each day will help you to:
- Restore the useful bacteria in your body's system
after antibiotic treatment
- Restore your normal bowel function and feeling of
well-being after taking antibiotics
- Suppress the growth of undesirable organisms, such
as those causing diarrhoea, food poisoning and thrush
- Reduce dangerous bacterial enzymes and so provide
a protective effect against cancer
- Provide the full vitamin content and the natural
balance of minerals, proteins, carbohydrates and calcium of
pure whole milk
The
side effects of antibiotics
Antibiotics
are a normal part of today's medical treatment. They work
effectively and quickly by recognising and killing a specific
class of bacteria associated with your illness, but they can
also kill good beneficial bacteria that perform useful functions
in your body. Regular servings of Biofarm's Acidophilus yoghurt
during and after antibiotic treatment will help restore the
natural bacteria in your intestine and help overcome side-effects,
such as bowel upsets and yeast infections like thrush.
Probiotics
Biofarm
yoghurt, which contains live and active cultures including
acidophilus, is an excellent example of a probiotic food.
Probiotics are living organisms that exert beneficial or life-enhancing
effects by improving the characteristics of the intestinal
microflora. When consumed, the probiotic bacteria pass through
the stomach to the gastrointestinal tract where they help
maintain a healthy microbial balance.
The species
of live bacteria used in the manufacture of Biofarm yoghurts
have been shown in several studies to confer health benefits
from regular probiotic consumption.
